A linoprint of a wren on a thorn branch by Deborah Vass

Wren, King of Birds

“The wren, the wren, the King of All Birds,
St. Stephen’s Night got caught in the furze.”

This small linocut print grew out of sketches made from my kitchen window, where a wren is often seen darting among the stems of the garden roses. Despite its tiny size, the wren is one of the boldest voices in the garden — busy, bright and fearless, its song often heard long before the bird itself is seen.

Each print is hand printed using environmentally friendly, water-based inks on soft, heavyweight Fabriano ivory paper. Because every print is inked and pressed by hand, slight variations occur in the pressure and depth of ink, making each impression subtly unique.

The print is signed, numbered and dated by the artist.
