Woodcock

The woodcock is a secretive and mysterious bird, perfectly adapted to the woodland floor where it sits almost invisible among leaf litter and bracken. Rarely seen, it reveals itself only to the patient observer.
 
Its eyes, set high on the head, allow it to remain alert while probing the soft earth for worms with its long beak. When I discovered a scatter of feathers in my garden — evidence of a predator’s visit — I was deeply saddened, yet struck by the quiet beauty of the bird.
 
This print was created in response: a small act of noticing, and of remembrance.
