Song Thrush
Original Linoprint
“At once a voice arose among
The bleak twigs overhead
In a full-hearted evensong
Of joy illimited”
— Thomas Hardy, The Darkling Thrush
Although now rarely seen, the song thrush remains one of our most beloved birds. Its song — a sequence of repeated, liquid phrases — is unmistakable and has a way of stopping you in your tracks, asking you to listen.
This limited-edition linocut print celebrates the song thrush and its enduring presence in our cultural and natural imagination.
Each print is hand printed and pulled using environmentally-friendly, water-based ink on heavyweight, soft Fabriano ivory paper. Due to the nature of linocut printing, each impression varies subtly with pressure and ink, making every print unique.
The accompanying photographs show the stages of the print’s creation, from my initial sketches through to carving the lino and hand printing each edition.
