Each year, at the time of the Winter Solstice, I make a visit to North Norfolk to walk along the coast and see the migratory birds.
I also always visit Baconsthorpe Castle, a magical ruin set deep in the countryside of North Norfolk. This engraving was made at the end of a freezing day there, and just as I was about to leave, the crows, jackdaws and rooks were sweeping across the bare tree tops as they went to roost. I made a rapid sketch to mark the scene the memory and this engraving is the result.
