Ludlow Owl
Original Linocut
Inspired by a fifteenth-century owl misericord in St Lawrence Church, Ludlow, this limited edition linocut celebrates one of the small, often overlooked carvings hidden beneath the folding seats of medieval churches.
Misericords were designed to offer discreet support during long periods of standing prayer, yet the craftsmen who carved them frequently revealed humour and personality in their work. I was immediately drawn to this owl’s comical expression and wonderfully rotund form — a character quietly watching over centuries of worshippers.
This is a limited edition linocut print of 50 (plus 5 Artist’s Proofs).
Each print is hand printed using environmentally friendly, water-based ink on heavyweight, soft Fabriano ivory paper.
Due to the nature of linocut printing, every impression varies subtly according to pressure and ink, making each print a unique work of art.
The photographs show stages of the printmaking process, from initial sketches through carving to the final hand-pulled print.
Each print is signed, titled and numbered by the artist.
Dimensions: 28 cm × 28 cm.
Your print will be backed with board, wrapped in cellophane and archival tissue with ribbon, and securely posted First Class from my Norfolk studio.
If you have any questions about framing, delivery, or the piece itself, you are very welcome to get in touch.
