Baconsthorpe Oak
Original Drypoint Engraving
This engraving developed from a sketchbook drawing made on the Winter Solstice at Baconsthorpe Castle in North Norfolk. It was a bitterly cold day, and I worked wrapped in layers, returning occasionally to the car for warmth before stepping back out to continue drawing.
There is a particular stillness to winter trees — a clarity of structure that reveals their quiet strength — and it was this presence that first drew me to the scene.
This engraving forms part of an ongoing study of trees observed in the Norfolk landscape.
This original drypoint is printed in black ink on Fabriano Rosaspina 300gsm paper.
The edition is limited to 30 prints. Each impression is signed and numbered, and subtle variations in the inking process ensure every print retains the character of a hand-pulled work.
