At the Ling's Edge
A mixed media study of a cottage on the edge of Wortham Ling, made in early spring.
This is a place close to home, walked often, where the cultivated and the open land meet. The cottage sits just within the line of trees, held in shadow, while the ling stretches out beyond. At this time of year, the land is still muted, but beginning to shift - light lifting across the grass, and the first suggestion of growth returning. I love that it has a quiet sense of being on the threshold between one landscape and another.
The Ling is an area of open heath characterised by undulating, rabbit cropped grass and heather from which it gets its name. It is a site of Special Scientific Interest.
This is worked on 300gsm Saunders Waterford watercolour paper.
The painting measures 24 x 19.5cm and is unframed.
